Producer Description

In 1987, co-owners Bill and Brenda Murphy decided to plant a few rows of Chardonnay in their Saratoga backyard, both for landscaping purposes and to realize their dreams of being small-scale vintners. A few years later, the wines produced from this small backyard vineyard were good enough to sell to the public. It was at this point that Clos LaChance formed into a commercial winery. The first released wines were from the 1992 vintage. The next 15 years would take the Murphy’s from 200 cases of wine produced to 80,000; 3/4 of an acre to 150 acres planted and 20 full-time and 25 seasonal employees.Clos LaChance Winery takes its name from the small fenced-in area encompassing a vineyard (Clos) and from co-owner Brenda Murphy’s maiden name (LaChance). The Murphy’s chose the Hummingbird as the winery’s symbol for both its aesthetic beauty and its ability to keep other birds away from the grapes.Together with their daughters, Bill and Brenda have created a multi-generational, family-owned and operated winery. It is their dream that the third generation will eventually take over the business. The winery is located in San Martin, CA, within the Central Coast American Viticultural Area. Tucked into the beautiful Hayes Valley, Clos LaChance is a true wine country experience located only 30 minutes from the Silicon Valley. Being a good steward of land and resources are key components in Clos LaChance’s winemaking practice. The family is especially vested in the sustainability of the winery and vineyard with the homes of creating a legacy for their children and grandchildren. Clos LaChance Winery and Estate Vineyard is proud to be Certified Sustainable by the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance.

Product Description

Robust and unique, with tempting aromas of spice and cedar, 14 Hands Stampede always serves the drama. This bold red blend wine sings with notes of cherry and cola carried across a light oak foundation. It's always time for an encore.
365 Souvenir Apricot Wine

Batch 55 embodies an opulent vintage, which saw its fruit grow amid lush rainfall and balmy temperatures. Nuanced aromas of sun-baked raspberry, crushed blueberry, freshly-turned earth and hints of nutmeg swirl in the glass, segueing to a palate of jammy blackberries, clove and caramel. This blend showcases Zinfandel's warm, luscious character, accentuated by time spent in our charred bourbon barrels, which lent a graceful, smoky finish to the wine.

Don't let this masterful blend escape you. Each powerful note brings you one step closer to a night filled with mischief and fun. The Warden is a Shiraz-based red blend with tons of richness and complexity. On the nose, there is ample plum, currant, and cherry intermixed with vanilla and cinnamon spice. The same flavor profile is evident in the mouth, picking up some licorice notes. The Warden celebrated those who cleverly ruled theses cunning convicts with top guard, using them as a source of labor to build public facilities ? transforming them into colonists ho forged a new country brick by brick. These men and women, both the incarcerated and their custodians, were the building Blocks of the nation that has now been known as Australia.

The Cabernet Sauvignon 1882 is round and consistent with a velvety palate and a sense of "completeness" from the well-developed linear tannins. Highly aromatic and immediately expressive, you'll find an alluring fragrance of plums, currants, dried cherries, cocoa, and violets followed by smooth flavors of red fruits with a hint of almond. The wine's complexity is made even more intriguing as the wine finishes with the subtle sweetness if white chocolate. If you choose to enjoy this vintage in its youth, we recommend decanting for one hour before serving, otherwise our 1882 Cabernet Sauvignon will continue to evolve and drink best in 5 to 10 years.
