Description

This craft rum is blended from 4 rums aged 12 to 14 years in El Salvador. The limited-edition expression features hand-numbered bottles and a taste profile that is meant to invoke the aromas of the Mayan Sahumerio ritual.

Ron Cihuatan’s story dates all the way back to the ancient Mayan city of Cihuatan. According to legend, a Goddess bestowed Cihuatan with riches and fertility. Her spirit still watches over the sugarcane fields, remaining in the shape of the Guazapa Mountain. This Salvadorean rum is named after this legend _ the Nahuat word “Cihuatan” translates to “the land beside the sleeping woman”. It’s the local culture, legends, gods, and spirits, that served as the main inspiration for El Salvador’s first rum distillery.

The spirit is produced by Licorera Cihuatan, a subsidiary of Ingenio La Caba?a of El Salvador. This rum is made using a 100-year-old sugar cane mill. The Licorera Cihuatan craft distillery was established in 2004 and began distilling and aging their rums. After fermentation, the rum is mostly aged in used American oak bourbon barrels. The team has complete control over the process, starting with the sugar cane seeds, overseeing distilling, aging, blending, and bottling with Master Blender Gabriela Ayala channeling her passion into each bottle of the finished product.

With the Mayan legends serving as inspiration, each of their rums pays tribute to a different god or spirit. The Sahumerio is a limited-edition blend of 4 rums that have spent between 12 and 14 years in ex-Bourbon casks. It’s the blend itself that is directly connected to spirituality _ each of the aromas is meant to invoke the smells of the Sahumerio ritual. The ritual involves burning treats in order for the Mayan goddess Chantico to grant the home with love, unity, friendship, and protection. Bottled at 90.4 proof and numbered by hand, it’s a rich and complex sipping rum.

Admiral Nelson's is the 2nd largest brand in the spiced rum category and the 4th largest overall rum brand in the United States. It is inspired by Admiral Horatio Nelson, leader of the greatest armada ever to sail the high seas. In addition to Spiced Rum, Admiral Nelson's Rum is also available in Cherry Spiced, Coconut, Pineapple, Vanilla, 101 Proof Spiced Rum, Black Patch Black Spiced Rum and traditional Gold and Silver rums

In 1824, Dr. Johann Siegart, a German doctor serving as Surgeon-General of Simon Bolivar's army in Venezuela, was working to find a medicine that would enhance the appetite and digestive well-being of his soldiers. Dr. Siegart eventually settled upon a mix of herbs and spices that he called ?Amargo Aromatico? ? today, this world-famous concoction is known simply as Angostura Bitters.

Building on his early success, Dr. Siegart established the House of Angostura in the eponymous Venezuelan city, where he began to manufacture his bitters on a grander scale (the business would later become the sole purveyor of bitters to the King of Prussia, Spain, and King George V). As he continued to expand, Dr. Siegart, along with his younger brother and his son, moved the House of Angostura to Port of Spain, Trinidad in 1876 and began producing rum.

A marvelous anejo spirit made from a blend of light and heavy molasses-based rums aged for a minimum of 8 years in charred American oak bourbon barrels. Has lots of toasty flavor.

A premium, smooth-tasting light rum infused with a fresh, tropical coconut flavor.

Intense dark golden color with a nose of wonderful honeyed raisin fruit, spiced and vanilla. A complex palate of luscious sweet sultans fruit balanced with a toasty oak. Long finish to leave a lasting impression of the brilliance of great rum.

It is without question, column distillation transformed how rums throughout the Caribbean were produced in the 20th century. Some of the keynote advantages were centered around efficiency. The Aeneas Coffey twin column design became a popular choice for rum producers in the British West Indies. As demand for lighter and cheaper rum grew, some distilleries around the Caribbean added more plates and eventually more columns to make even lighter spirits with less congeners. Many rums today are distilled on multi-column stills with numerous plates making rums washed of any natural character. It is these rums that have contributed to some of the negative perception of column distillation of rum.

The column still at St. Lucia Distillers is a traditional twin column Coffey still commissioned in 1985. The Admiral Rodney rums have the fingerprint of Saint Lucian rum, which is a rum character unparalleled to any other fine aged rum. The rich flavor profile is undoubtedly from the brilliance of extracting pure rum on lower plates in the rectifier column with lower alcohol by volume. These are heavier bodied rums than most column distilled rums and deserve extended periods of aging in oak casks to fully evolve into the Saint Lucia's most prized liquid treasure.

Soft and delicate with nuances of tropical fruits, mangoes and bananas.

The rums of the House of Angostura? are a treasured legacy, a tribute to the evolution of the rum industry in the Caribbean and the men and women who nurtured it. The House of Angostura? owns the only rum distillery in Trinidad today, and controls its rum manufacturing process from end to end. Our rums are blended by masters with years of experience and training in original traditions, who closely maintain guarded formulas and techniques. Our blenders are involved at every stage to ensure the highest quality and consistency, from molasses selection through to cask selection.
