In 1851, young Charles Heidsieck founded his own Champagne house in Reims. He understood that the United States was an important emerging market, so he traversed America repeatedly north to south promoting his new brand. The stylish entrepreneur became known lovingly as ?Champagne Charlie.?
Charles Heidsieck Champagne is distinguished by the high proportion of reserve wines in the Brut R'serve. 40% of the blend is comprised of reserve wines averaging 10 years old, giving the wine uncommon depth and complexity. In addition to the non-vintage Brut R'serve and Rose R'serve, the winery produces a Vintage Brut, Vintage Rose and the prestige cuv?e Blanc des Millenaires.
Only 60 crus from Champagne are blended to create Charles Heidsieck Champagnes, but the three stylistic pillars that give the Brut R'serve its distinct character are Grand Cru Chardonnay from Oger in the C?te des Blancs, Grand Cru Pinot Noir from Ambonnay in the Montagne de Reims, and the distinct Pinot Meunier from Verneuil in the Vall?e de Marne.
| The California Gold Rush was a period of courage, bravado and curiosity. It was with these characteristics in mind that we crafted Gold Rush Red. Grapes chosen from the golden hills and valleys of California were blended to create this bold, adventurous testament to that intrepid spirit. Parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Zinfandel form the backbone of this wine. Petite Sirah and Merlot were then meticulously selected to add complexity to this intense blend. Each lot began its journey in traditional French and American wine barrels. Then, in true 1000 Stories fashion, winemaker Bob Blue divided the blend, finishing it in a combination of new and used bourbon barrels.
